Lavi Gupta scored 81 in Audit while managing articleship alongside her studies. She credits three things: consistency with self-control, staying away from social media, and revising daily with real understanding instead of rote learning. She learnt Audit from CA Ravi Taori and used his FADU Chart Book, PARAM Question Bank and revision videos.
How did Lavi Gupta plan her studies along with articleship?
Lavi did not treat finishing classes as the goal. She revised daily, revised each subject once it was done, and kept practising with mock test papers, all while doing articleship.
Her order was simple. First finish the classes. Then do a proper revision from the study material. After that, go through the Institute’s study material and relate it to what you have already studied. Then keep doing multiple revisions, keep practising, and write mock test papers.
She was clear that only finishing classes was not the approach. Before the next class, she went through the notes of what the teacher had already taught. Her point: if you walk into the next class without opening those notes, you will not get what you came for. Ravi Sir called this plan of daily study plus revision after every subject one of the main reasons she could manage the full workload with articleship.
What helped Lavi Gupta the most?
When Ravi Sir asked what helped her crack the exam, Lavi talked about consistency with self-control and staying away from social media.
- Consistency and self-control. You have to keep self-control and avoid distractions. Do not let doubt build up about what you have done. Stay devoted to the hard work you have put in.
- No social media. She stayed completely away from social media and her mobile phone. Ravi Sir pointed out that it saved her a lot of time, and that keeping away from the phone is a big achievement in itself today.
She also stayed with one strategy all the way through and did not let it break or give room to second thoughts.
How did Lavi prepare Audit theory to score 81?
For theory, Lavi did not count revisions. She read until she understood each concept, then tested herself chapter by chapter on the question bank.
Her view is that three or four revisions are not enough for theory, and rote learning does not help. Audit has too many provisions to mug up. When you keep reading and understanding the concepts, they settle in your mind on their own.
- Finish the classes first, then do a proper revision.
- Set a target: one chapter or two chapters at a time.
- Once the concepts are clear, attempt that chapter’s questions from the question bank.
- Read the book carefully, because the important points are already well marked in it.
- Write the high points in the margins. If the keywords come back, the whole answer and the concept come back.
- Then compare what you wrote with the model answer.
How did Lavi use the FADU Chart Book and PARAM Question Bank?
She did not just read the answers in the PARAM Question Bank. She recalled the flow in which she had learnt the topic from the chart and then wrote it in good language.
Ravi Sir said this was the part he liked most. When Lavi went through a PARAM question, she did not stop at the printed answer. She tried to remember how and in what flow she had studied it in the chart, and then expressed it properly in her own sentences. In other words, she worked on drafting sentences, not just on memory.
She also watched the PARAM video on important questions and used the revision classes. In her message to Ravi Sir she listed the hard work, the revision videos and the FADU Chart Book as the things that came together for her.
What daily routine did Lavi follow?
Lavi studied every single day, aimed to finish one chapter a day, and did not keep count of how many times she had revised.
Ravi Sir shared one point that Lavi had stressed to him: you have to study on a daily basis, no matter what. If a chapter was big, it could take more, but the day’s chapter had to be finished. Her daily mix was simple: no social media, revision classes, and one chapter every day, with repeated revisions on top.
In Lavi’s own words
“Just finishing the classes was not the approach. Revising on a daily basis is extremely important.” (2:22)
“Sir, the first is consistency. You have to keep self-control and you have to avoid distractions.” (4:01)
“For theory, you should not count how many revisions you have done. Three or four revisions are not sufficient.” (7:04)
“Rote learning is not going to help you. Always read and understand the concepts. When you keep going through them, they fit in your mind on their own.” (7:12)
“I used to write the high points in the margins, because once the keywords come back, the whole answer comes back.” (9:09)
“All your hard work, revision videos, FADU Chart Book and what not — sab ne kamaal kar diya, Sir.”
Lavi’s advice for students
- Do not just finish classes; revise daily and open your notes before the next class.
- Do not count revisions for theory; three or four are not enough.
- Understand the concepts instead of rote learning; there are too many provisions to mug up.
- Write keywords in the margins; the keywords bring back the whole answer.
- Be consistent, keep self-control and stay away from social media and your phone.
